Sponsor Information

Confirmation Sponsor Information: (per Canon Law 874)

  1. A sponsor must be designated by the one to be confirmed and have the aptitude and 
intention of performing this function.
  2. Have completed the sixteenth year of age, or the pastor has granted an exception for a just 
cause. Note: We recommend the sponsor be 21 years of age, or at least graduated from high school the spring of beginning the Confirmation program
  3. Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist, and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on
  4. Not be bound by a canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared
  5. A sponsor may not be the father or mother of the one to be confirmed

Being a sponsor includes:

  1. Meeting with the candidate during the Confirmation process
  2. Encouraging the candidate throughout the Confirmation process
  3. Returning the completed Confirmation Candidate-Sponsor Record
  4. Attending the Confirmation Practice (TBD) if possible (parents may stand-in for out-of- town sponsors at the practice
  5. Attend the Confirmation Mass (TBD)
