Sponsor Information
Confirmation Sponsor Information: (per Canon Law 874)
- A sponsor must be designated by the one to be confirmed and have the aptitude and 
intention of performing this function.
- Have completed the sixteenth year of age, or the pastor has granted an exception for a just 
cause. Note: We recommend the sponsor be 21 years of age, or at least graduated from high school the spring of beginning the Confirmation program
- Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist, and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on
- Not be bound by a canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared
- A sponsor may not be the father or mother of the one to be confirmed
Being a sponsor includes:
- Meeting with the candidate during the Confirmation process
- Encouraging the candidate throughout the Confirmation process
- Returning the completed Confirmation Candidate-Sponsor Record
- Attending the Confirmation Practice (TBD) if possible (parents may stand-in for out-of- town sponsors at the practice
- Attend the Confirmation Mass (TBD)
